Blocked golf shots miss the target straight right. Hooks start right of target and then swing to much to the left and miss the target. If you want to hit the golf ball further, more accurately and more solidly then you want to work on your down swing being less steep, so that you can rotate your body more through impact. A steep down swing results in you using your arms far too much as you strike the golf ball, which reduces your power and club face control. If you collapse your arms and pull your hands in towards your body during your back swing, then you are not creating the widest possible arc for your golf swing. Keeping your left arm straight is essential in creating width for your golf swing and this in turn allows you to create speed which will produce your longest golf shots. It will also help you achieve improved directional control for your golf shots. So here’s a great drill to ensure you extend your left arm during your back swing and stop you collapsing your arms at the top.
How to achieve the best position with your arms at the top of the back swing -
